All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT)

All India Pre-Medical Test / Pre-Dental Entrance Examination:

The AIPMT is a college entrance test held once in a year in India. The organizer of the exam is CBSE, Delhi. This test is for the courses MBBS and BDS. This test allows students to get admissions in different colleges in India. Currently, 15% of the entire seats in all colleges maintained by the Indian union, state governments, municipal corporations, or other Indian authorities, except the states AP and Jammu and Kashmir are kept back for candidates who succeed this examination.

The main goal of this test is to provide seats to all the students of all the states in India. This is one of the tests which are not based on the reservations. But from the year 2006 the SC, ST and OBC reservations have introduced in AIPTM by the ministry of human resources.

Two levels of exam are conducted in this test. Initially preliminary is conducted generally on 1st Sunday in the month of April. Secondly Mains is conducted in the month of May. In all pre-medical exams this is the one which is most awaited and respected. AIPMT is comparable to AIEEE, which is also conducted by the same board CBSE for entrance to engineering institutes in India. In the year 2009 the initial level of examination was held in the month of April 2009 and the final (mains) was conducted on 10 May.

The model of AIPMT is changed. These modifications will come into effect from the year 2010. Some complaints on the irregularity of the subjective mains made it totally objective same as the prelims. Reservations in this test have been introduced as per the government in only the central institutes. Only OBC reservations are implemented. Nearly 2000 MBBS and 250 seats in dental are introduced in AIPMT, but ranks nearly up to 2500 can keep hopes for a good and respectable seat in a reputed institute. NCERT books are used for the preparation of this examination.
