India has put into orbit seven satellites, including one built with France to study the world’s oceans. President Pranab Mukherjee watched the rocket carrying the seven satellites take off from Sriharikota launch centre in southern Andhra Pradesh state.
The six other satellites include two each from Canada and Austria and one each from Denmark and Britain.

Senior Judge of Madras High Court Chockalingam Nagappan has been appointed as the Chief Justice of Orissa High Court, a Rashtrapati Bhawan notification said on Saturday. Nagappan will join office February 27. Justice Nagappan, born October 4, 1951, started his legal career August 7, 1974. Diesel will become costlier by 45 paise perlitre and petrol by Rs.1.50 a litre from Friday-Saturday midnight due to increase in crude oil prices in international markets, oil marketing firms said Friday. A litre of diesel which currently costs Rs.47.65 in New Delhi will be costlier by 45 paise plus taxes. Petrol currently costs Rs.67.26 per litre in the national capital and it will become costlier by Rs.1.50 a litre plus taxes.
Rates of petrol and diesel vary from state to state due to different tax structure.
