  • CWG – 2014 – Vikas Gowda lived up to his billing as one of the favourites in men’s discus throw as he won the gold medal with a heave of 63.64m at the Hampden Park on Thursday.
  • CWG- 2014 – Cheered on by the double Olympic medallist, Yogeshwar ­ an Olympic medallist himself ­ raced to gold against Canada’s Jevon Balfour in his new weight category, 65kg. Babita Rani won the first gold of the day in the women’s 55kg category . Babita, who had won a silver in Delhi 2010 in 51kg.

  • The government is preparing for a showdown with non-NDA parties in the Rajya Sabha over the bill to hike FDI cap in insurance sector from 26 to 49%, amid indications that Congress will not support the bill.
  • ICICI Bank has reported a net profit of Rs 2,655 crore for the quarter ended June 2014, an increase of 17% over Rs 2,274 crore in the same period last year.
  • There was chaos at Kirori Mal College on Thursday morning which spilled onto North Campus streets as the college reneged on its promise to admit all 60 candidates selected in ECA/sports quota on the last day of undergraduate admissions in Delhi University.
