  • Craig McMillan has been appointed the New Zealand batting coach for the upcoming tour of the West Indies, which starts later this month. McMillan played 55 Tests and 197 ODIs between 1997 and 2007.
  • The Election Commission (EC) on Friday appointed Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Kumar the special observer for Varanasi constituency, where the district administration’s denial of permission to a BJP rally prompted the party to accuse the poll panel of bias.
  • China plans to build an ambitious 13,000 km rail line to operate bullet trains to the US through Russia. The track is set to pass through a 200-km tunnel under the Pacific Ocean to reach the continental US via Alaska and Canada.

  • A Delhi University English professor was arrested Friday morning in New Delhi for alleged links to Maoists. The arrest was by the Maharashtra police. Prof. G.N. Saibaba was taken into custody around 11.45 am when he was at Daulat Ram College to check some examination papers.
