  • Ananta Bijoy Das, a Bangladeshi blogger of ‘Mukto-Mona’ website, was murdered on May 12, 2015 by a masked man. He is the third Bangladeshi writer to be killed only in this year. Avijit Roy, founder of the site Muko-Mona, was killed in the same in February and Washique Rahman was the second one to be killed in March.
  • Google has added Indian Railways schedule to its Transit feature of Google Maps on May 12, 2015, enabling users to make online planning via public transport either by using Google Maps app for Android and iOS or Google Maps for the desktop.
  • India Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation rate is 4.87% for the month of April. Government data of Consumer Price Index for April and Index of Industrial Production for March has been published on May 12, 2015 which shows a decline in industrial output growth to 2.1% in March.
  • The magnitude of the earthquake was 7.3, struck hardest on May 12, 2015 in Nepal and nearby countries, killing over 40 people in Nepal whereas more than 1,000 injured. It is the second quake within 17 days; last one was occurred on 25th April killing more than 8,000 people and more than 17,000 injured.
  • Indian President Pranab Mukherjee appointed six new governors on May 12, 2015. Droupadi Murmu has been appointed as the governor of Jharkhand. Syed Ahmed has been appointed as the new governor of Manipur for remainder of his term. J. P. Rajkhowa has been appointed as the governor of Arunachal Pradesh. V. Shanmuganthan has been appointed as the governor of Meghalaya. Nirbhay Sharma and Tathagata Roy have been appointed as the governor of Mizoram and Tripura respectively.
  • US Secretary of State John Kerry met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on 12th May 2015 in Sochi, Russia. Both countries have different opinion regarding Ukraine crisis which was the key issue in the meeting.
  • Philippines and Japan held their first joint naval exercises in the South China Sea on May 13, 2015. Most of South China Sea is claimed by China and other countries which also come in interest of Japan for trade travelling through international waterway.
  • Confederation of Indian Industry-Southern Region launched the ‘CII-SR CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) Gateway ‘on May 12, 2015, an online platform to connect businesses with other CSR stakeholders.
  • Indian actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has been given the Best Actor Award at the New York Indian Film Festival on May 12, 2015 for his film ‘Haraamkhor’.
  • Former English football player, Lee Alan Johnson has been appointed as the coach of Under-19 football team by All Indian Foolball Federation on May 12, 2015.
