  • The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that the comptroller and auditor general (CAG) can audit account books of private companies which are doing business using national wealth or natural resources on a revenuesharing basis with the Centre.

Net profit of the company grew 10.5 percent sequentially to Rs 2,226.5 crore on revenue of Rs 11,703.6 crore (3.3 percent Q-o-Q) during the quarter.
  • Piramal Enterprises on Thursday said it will buy a 20% stake in Shriram Capital,a Chennai-headquartered unlisted financial services company, for Rs 2,014 crore. Shriram Capital is the holding company for the financial services and insurance business within the Shriram group.
  • Fourth-ranked IT services firm HCL Technologies posted a 59 % jump in net profit to Rs 1,624 crore in the quarter ended March 31, driven by strong growth in infrastructure services and its financial and manufacturing verticals.
  • Bank deposits grew at 15% year-on-year to Rs 79,31,104 crore as on April 4,better than credit growth, according to RBI data.Deposits of commercial banks stood at Rs 68,97,225 crore during the same period last year.
