  • The first private member’s bill seeking equal rights with dignity for transgenders who are widely scorned, ostracized and ghettoized in the country, unanimously passed by Rajya Sabha in 36 year on 24th April.
  • Finance minister Arun Jaitley on 24th April, moved the pending bill to amend the Constitution for implementing Goods and Services Tax, pitching it as a “winwin“ measure for the country amid stiff resistance from the opposition, led by Sonia Gandhi.
  • Michael Adams of England was defeated by Indian ace chess player Vishwanathan Anand in the Shamkir Chess 2015 tournament on April 24, 2015. Vishwasnathan Anand is now jumped to the second spot in the tournament.
  • On the occasion of celebrating World Immunisation Week from 24th to 30th April, World Health organization said that 21.8 million infants are still missing out on basic vaccines like diphtheria, hepatitis B, measles, mumps and tetanus. Immunisation coverage is less than 80 percent in India.
  • Three students were arrested for impersonation during the Class X English exam of National Institute of Open Schooling at a government school in Chanakyapuri. The students were caught when the invigilator randomly checked their identity cards and found that they were from different schools.
  • Bhartiya Janata Party’s Subhash Arya won a South Delhi Municipal Corporation’s polls by a close margin. He won by 19 votes beating Congress’ Farhad Suri. BJP’s Kuldeep Solanki has been chosen as deputy mayor.
  • Unemployment increased among rural male inhabitants of the scheduled castes (SC) and other backwards castes (OBC) between 2009-10 and 2011-12, a survey by the National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO) has discovered.

  • The Maharashtra government has reported 257 suicides by farmers in the state this year resulting from the untimely rains and hailstorm. Family of such farmers who ends their life due to crop failure, debt and inability to repay the loans are provided Rs. one lakh by the government.
  • The long pending Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill was moved in the Lok Sabha on April 24, 2015 for consideration. The bill on GST, considered the biggest tax reform after 1947, was introduced in Lok Sabha in December last year. A single rate of GST will replace central excise, state VAT, entertainment tax, octroi, entry tax, luxury tax and purchase tax on goods and services.
  • American superhero film ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ was directed by Joss Whedon and released on April 24, 2015 in India. It is sequel of The Avengers released in 2012.
  • 10 suspected Al-Queda militants were arrested by Italian police in Italy on April 24, 2015 who had plotted attacks in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Vatican.
