Every year in the month of April Tripura Joint Entrance Examination used to take place in Tripura. In this examination candidates from Tripura as well as from other parts of India can be able to appear for this examination.
The examination is held for two days generally. On the first day there is examination for two papers and on the next day examination on the remaining two papers takes place.
Candidates who are from science background in the 12th standard are eligible to sit for this entrance examination. There are three categories of examination present under this entrance examination. These categories are as follows:
- Group A – candidates who are willing to study engineering degree course should opt for this category. They have to give examination on physics, chemistry and mathematics.
- Group B – candidates who are willing to study medical science or agriculture should go for this category. They have to sit for examinations on physics, chemistry and biology.
- Group C – candidates who are willing to get chance either in engineering or medical/ agriculture should opt for this category. So they have to give examination on physic, chemistry, mathematics as well as biology.
The medium of Tripura Joint Entrance Examination is both English and Bengali. Those who prefer English version should answer the question only in English and those who prefer Bengali version should write all the answers in Bengali medium. Combination of both versions in the answer sheet is not allowed. Each subject carries 100 marks in this examination. There is some allotted cut off marks there besides each successful candidate should have 50% marks in physics, chemistry, mathematics or biology for general category and for SC/ST this average percentage is reduced to 45% and 40% respectively.
The engineering streams those are available in the engineering colleges under the Tripura Joint Entrance Examination – civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science etc.
Admission to the colleges in the engineering colleges, medical colleges and agricultural colleges are on the basis of merit list. Those who are in the top positions in the list will get chance first. The examination is becoming much comprehensive nowadays. There are some seats in the regional college and the NIT College in Tripura. Keeping those reserved seats the remaining seats are allotted to the successful candidates who top the merit list in the Tripura Joint Entrance Examination. The Chairman of the board declares the result.
