  • Dr. Hemant Biswa Sarma has been elected as the new President of the Indian Badminton Association (BAI). This decision was taken unanimously in a meeting held in Goa on April 3. Cabinet Minister Hemant Biswa is the convenor of the North Eastern Democratic Alliance (NEDA). Hemant Biswa will now hold the post for next four years.
  • Controversial Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban has secured a third successive term in office after his right-wing Fidesz party won by a landslide in parliamentary elections.
  • Rishad Premji was appointed as the new president of the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASCOM) on 11th April. Premji has been a member of NASCOM Executive Council and he was also Vice Chairman of the Company in 2017. They will replace Raman Roy.
  • FMCG sector giant Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) has appointed Sanjeev Mehta as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) on April 12, 2018. Sanjeev Mehta is the company's MD and CEO.
  • Dilip Chenoy has been appointed as the General Secretary of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). He has replaced Sanjay Baru. FICCI is India's largest and oldest highest organization.
  • Narendra Chauhan was appointed the next Ambassador of India to Czech Republic. Narinder Chauhan is the Indian Foreign Service Officer (IFS) of 1985 Batch. He is currently the ambassador of India in the Republic of Serbia.

  • 65th National Award winners were announced by National Film Development Corporation of India on 13th April, 2018 at Shastri Bhawan in New Delhi. Bengali actor Riddhi Sen selected for Best Actor and Actress Sridevi selected for Best Actress Award. Actor Vinod Khanna has been posthumously given the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2017.
  • Famous Indian actor Dharmendra has been selected for the 'Raj Kapoor Lifetime Achievement Award' for his outstanding contributions to the cinema industry.

  • World Malaria Day was celebrated on 25th April throughout the world Every year, this day is celebrated to attract people's attention towards serious illness like malaria. The theme for World Malaria Day 2018 is 'Ready to beat malaria'.
  • The 15th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas will be held in holy city if Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) from January 21 to January 23, 2019. Its theme will be “Role of Indian Diaspora in building a New India”. The mega event will be organised by Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in association with Uttar Pradesh government. Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is celebrated every year in India on 9 January.

  • According to the Indian Cellular Association's data shared with the government, India has now become the second largest mobile phone manufacturer in the world after China. Annual production of mobile phones in India has increased from 3 million units to 11 million units in 2017.
  • Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling has announced on 03 April 2018 monthly pension of 1000 rupees for farmers engaged in organic farming in the state. Sikkim is the first fully organic state in the country.
  • The Maharashtra government has decided to provide free chemotherapy treatment to patients admitted in district hospitals announced by state public health minister Deepak Sawant. In the first phase, the facility will be made available from June onwards at ten district hospitals. located in Pune, Jalgaon, Nashik, Satara, Nagpur, Gadchiroli, Amravati, Bhandara, Akola and Wardha.
  • The Union Cabinet on 21 april approved the promulgation of the Fugitive Economic Offenders Ordinance 2018, which would empower the government to seize the domestic assets of those deemed by a relevant court to be fugitive economic offenders.
  • Jammu and Kashmir has become the first state to approve the 7th Central Pay Commission's recommendations. In the Cabinet meeting held in the Secretariat on 24th April, 2018 under the chairmanship of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, the approval for the implementation of the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission was approved. These recommendations will be effective from January 2016.
  • Dalmiya Bhartia Limited has signed MoU with the Ministry of Tourism to make Red Fort and Gandakota Fort (Andhra Pradesh) under the 'Adopt A Heritage' project. Dalmiya Bharat Group, under the contract of 25 crore rupees for the next five years, has adopted 'Red Cross' as the first corporate house in Indian history.

  • Famous Bollywood Actor Raj Kishore passed away at the age of 85 in Gurgaon on Thursday night. The veteran actor, who starred in movies like Sholay, Deewar, Hare Rama Hare Krishna, and Padosan among others, died following a heart attack.
  • Senior Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh minister Rajendra Singh died on April 15, 2018 at age of 86 due to heart attack. Rajendra Singh was a minister in the Madhya Pradesh government from 1975 to 1977.

As per the Airports Council International (ACI) data New Delhi airport jumped from 22nd rank in 2016 to 16th rank, solidifying its status as one of the fastest growing airports in the world for passenger traffic.
  • India ranked 130th out of 186 economies in the Index of Economic Freedom 2018 that measures the degree of economic freedom in the countries of the world. In this edition of index, India with score of 54.5 jumped 13 places from 143rd rank in previous year (2017) with a score of 52.6 points.
  • According to International Monetary Funds World Economic Outlook (WEO) for April 2018, India becomes world’s 6th largest economy in the world at $2.6 trillion (interms of GDP), displacing France. The other 5 economies ahead are United States, China, Japan, Germany and United Kingdom. India is expected to grow at 7.4% in 2018 and 7.8% in 2019, making it fastest growing economy in the world.
  • Vaishish Agarwal, co-founder of the cab service company Ola, Hindi film actress Deepika Padukone, cricketer Virat Kohli and Microsoft CEO born Satya Nadella are among the 100 most influential celebrities in this year's world of 'Time Magazine'.

  • American tennis player Sloan Stephens defeated Yelena Oostenko by 7-6, 6-1 and won the women's singles title for the first time in the Miami Open tennis tournament. Stephen won six games in second set and won the Miami title for the first time.
  • The 21st Commonwealth Games got underway on 4 April in the Australian city of Gold Coast. The event will feature about 4,300 athletes from 71 Commonwealth nations who will compete across 23 disciplines.
  • Indian Star weightlifter Meerabai Chanu won the gold medal in the women's 48 kg category in the 21st Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast. It was India' first gold medal in the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Meerabai Chanu took the gold medal in the snatch round by lifting 80 kgs, then 84 and 86 kg in the third time.
  • Five-time world champion and Olympic medalist MC Mary Kom has become the first Indian woman boxer to win gold medal in Commonwealth Games history.
  • The 2018 Commonwealth Games has become India’s third most successful CWG of all time, with a 200-plus contingent delivering 66 medals to outdo the 64 from Glasgow four years ago and finish behind the 101 from Delhi in 2010 and 69 from the 2002 Melbourne Games. India finished with 26 golds, 20 silvers and 20 bronze medals at Gold Coast, thus settling at third position with a total of 66 medals on the table behind Australia (198) and England (136).
  • Indian Squash player Velavan Senthilkumar has won his first PSA World Tour title defeating Tristan Eyrele of South Africa in the finals of the Madison Open in the US.
  • BCCI has nominated Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan and Indian women's opener Smriti Mandana for the Arjuna Award. Along with that BCCI alos nominated former Indian captain Rahul Dravid for the prestigious Dronacharya award.
