  • Infosys shareholders approved the appointment Narayana Murthy as executive chairman and whole-time director of the company, two months after it recalled the founder to arrest falling growth.
  • Raghuram Rajan who is the Chief Economic Advisor in the Finance Ministry is going to be the new Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). He will be replacing D Subbarao, as announced by the government on Tuesday. The appointment is said to have got the approval of the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
  • Pratik Panels Ltd has informed BSE that Mr. Giriraj Kumar Damani has joined as additional Director w.e.f. July 24, 2013.

  • Google and Motorola have come up with Moto X a smartphone which stresses more nonuser experience rather than technical specifications. The phone has gesture controlled camera and is said to be designed on the model of an iPhone with simplicity being the main feature of the device.
  • The RBI has imposed a fine of Rs 5.6 lakh on State Bank of India as it violated the agreement pertaining to the operation and maintenance of currency chests at the Secunderabad branch of SBI. The RBI had earlier imposed a fine of Rs 3 crore on SBI last month for the violation of the KYC norms.
  • Kenneth Andrade, Head Investment at, IDFC Mutual Fund told CNBC-TV18, 'There is a very large opportunity which is there in pharmaceuticals and most companies are present in that opportunity. While currency is in favour it is not the only USP that these companies have. They have built their presence in the environment outside.'

Brazil is only ahead of India in the Internet population growth rate with a 37% increase though it has 62.1 million internet users.

  • Yasin Bhatkal, the co-founder of Indian Mujahideen (IM) who was in the wanted list for a series of bomb blasts in India was arrested at Indo-Nepal border in Bihar along with another suspected terrorist. This is the second breakthrough in arrests after that of Abdul Karim Tunda, the LeT operative. Incidentally, he was also arrested at the India-Nepal border on 16th August.
  • National Investigation Agency (NIA) was given the custody of Yasin Bhatkal, the Indian Mujahideen co-founder who was nabbed at the India Nepal border, by a court for 12 days. I.S. Mehta the NIA special judge also sent Asadulla Akhtar aka Haddi who was arrested along with Bhatkal to a similar 12 days custody with NIA

  • A bill to amend the Right to Information ?(RTI) Act was introduced in the Lok Sabha with a purpose to keep political parties out of the purview of the RTI Act. V Narayanasamy, the Minister of State for Personnel and Training introduced the bill. On 3rd June, the Central Information Commission (CIC) had specified that six national political parties to be brought under the RTI Act considering the fact that these parties were public authorities, and received substantial funds from the government.

  • Three players from India reached the third round of the Badminton World Championships in Guangzhou. Saina Nehwal gave away only 9 points while it was a tough match for PV Sindhu who is 10th seeded. On the other hand, P. Kashyap was comfortably in as Petr Koukal of Czech Republic left the game due to knee injury and 13th seed Kashyap had an edge with 14-5 in the first game.
  • PV Sindhu has written her name in the history books when she became the first Indian woman singles player who will get a medal at the World Badminton Championships. Sindhu has reached the semis of Badminton World Federation Championship even though Saina Nehwal has left in the quarterfinal stage.
  • PV Sindhu wants to be the number one and she is gradually cruising to her goal. She may have lost in the semifinals in straight games of the Badminton World Federation Championships but still has managed to win a bronze in the singles after Prakash Padukone got one in the men's singles in the year 1983.
  • Rohan Bopanna and Edouard Roger-Vasselin defeated Leander Paes and Radek Stepanek to reach the semis of the ATP Cincinnati Masters. The Indo French duo who was 8th seeded won over Indo-Czech team 6-3, 6-7(3), 10-8. This will be the second time Bopanna will be in the endeavor to reach Cincinnati final when he along with Roger-Vasselin meet Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez ,the duo from Spain who edged past Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski in the quarter final 6-4, 6-2.
  • Kush Kumar from India won against N.G. Eain Yow of Malaysia 11-6, 11-13, 11-9, 11-8 to get into the Men's singles squash final. This is a part of the second Asian Youth Games being held in Nanjing in China.
  • Virat Kohli is the top Indian batsman who has got sixth position in the ICC Twenty20 rankings. After him there is Suresh Raina at 8th position whereas, Yuvraj Singh is at 16th rank. The bowlers do not figure in the top 10 list and R Ashwin secures the highest rank among the Indian bowlers at 16th.
  • Somdev Devvarman has fought his way into the US Open main draw when he defeated James Ward of UK in a closely fought three-set match at New York. Somdev who was sixth seeded won the match 6-3 3-6 6-4 in the third round qualifier, which went on for two hours and 15 minutes. Somdev will now meet Lukas Lacko of Slovakia who is at 85th position as his first round opponent.
  • Indian women's archery team grabbed a gold after defeating Koreans at the World Cup Archery held in Wroclaw?, Poland. This is the second win for the title in a row for Deepika Kumari, Rimil Buriuly and Laishram? Bombayla Devi when they defeated London Olympic gold winners 219-215. Last month the team had won against China in Medellin. 
  • The 64th National Basketball Championship will take place at Cuttack from 1st to 8th September. It will take place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium and the competition is between junior men and women. The tournament is organized by Basketball Federation of India (BFI) in alliance with Odisha Basketball Association (OBA).

  • Bharti Airtel is all geared up to offer 4G services in Delhi after providing the same facility in Kolkata, Pune, Bangalore and Chandigarh. For this Huawei will help the operator to build the 4G network in Delhi. 4G services will be launched in Delhi by September. Airtel recently announced 31% slash on 4G data tariffs to increase data usage and attract users to opt for its 4G service.
  • Google has unveiled the beta support for Hindi handwriting and aims to make Hindi internet simple to use. There will be the feature to shift to Hindi for Android. Herein, the users need to select the option Handwrite from the settings in the mobile browsers and then use finger or stylus to write in Hindi anywhere on the screen.
  • US-based web hosting services provider and domain name registrar said its customer base in India has increased 86 percent since launching operations in the country last year. 'GoDaddy selected India as a priority market last year and now we are using India as a blueprint for our expansion into other global markets,' GoDaddy International Senior Vice President James Carroll told reporters.

  • Pakistan has violated the ceasefire agreement again and they started firing in Mendhar sector at the Line of Control in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. It all began at around 1:50 am and Indian troops retaliated thereafter. No case of killing or injury has been recorded for this ceasefire.
