  • Sundar Pichai, 43-year-old,  Indian-born has been named as the new CEO of Google. The company has undergone a corporate restructuring and formed an umbrella company, Alphabet. Company founders Larry page and Sergey Brin will be the CEO of Alphabet. Pichai will take the charge of Google (which will be dubbed as Google Minus).
  • Arun Singhal, a 1987-batch IAS officer, has been appointed the chief electoral officer of Uttar Pradesh, officials said. His name was cleared by the Election Commission and communicated to Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan this week. The post had been lying vacant since April after Umesh Sinha was posted as the deputy election commissioner in New Delhi.

  • RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan has raised hopes of India Inc as he hinted on another round of rate cut this year by saying India’s apex bank is still under “accommodative mode”. However, he also added that the final decision of any rate cut will be undertaken only after inflation data and other macroeconomic economic factors.

An ISRO official said that an Astrosat satellite is all set to be launched in September with the help of PSLV (Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle) rocket.
  • A.S.Kiran Kumar, Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), has said that ISRO will launch a US NISAR (NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar) satellite in the year 2021 by using GSLV-Mk II rocket, as part of the on-going cooperation between NASA and ISRO.

This is the first plant in Delhi to generate power through hydraulic turbines propelled by treated effluent from the STP, the statement said. The generated electricity will be utilised at the sewage plant itself.

  • India will launch communication satellite GSat-6 on August 27, the space agency said.The satellite will be launched with the Indian Space Research Organisation's (ISRO) heavier rocket geosynchronous satellite launch vehicle (GSLV).According to ISRO, the GSLV rocket carrying the GSat-6 communication satellite weighing over 2,100 kg will blast off at 4.52 p.m. on August 27.

  • India men's hockey team outclassed France 4-1 in the second match of the Europe Tour at the Wattignies Sports Centre. Gurjinder Singh scored twice, Amir and Rupinder Pal Singh found the target once each for India, while Baumgarten pulled one back for the hosts. After winning the series 2-0, India will now travel to Spain and play their next match on 10 August at Sant Cugat del Valles.?
  • India once again proved to be a juggernaut in the Asian Youth Chess Championships that ended in Suwon, South Korea. The Indians pocketed five gold medals, five silver medals and five bronze medals, while second placed Iran bagged six medals.   • India will host the 2018 edition of the Theatre Olympics, an official announced on 24 August 2015. 'India has been given the right to host the 2018 edition,' said National School of Drama (NSD) director Waman Kendre during the inauguration of a five-day festival of northeastern plays, 'Poorvotta Rashtriya Rang Manch'. NSD chairman Ratan Thiyam returned to India on Sunday after attending a meeting in the Netherlands where the decision was taken.

General Manager of Eastern Railway, R K Gupta, said that this app has been designed as per the available technology implemented in Secunderabad and Mumbai
