  • Vasundhara Raje was sworn in as the chief minister of Rajasthan for the 2nd time after the BJP defeated the Congress in the assembly elections. She was the Chief Minister from 2003 to 2008. She was sworn in by the Governor Margaret Alva at the Rajasthan assembly.

  • One more award in the kitty of awards for Veteran actress Asha Parekh. The actress has been awarded for her contribution to Hindi cinema. The tile having the handprints of Asha Parekh was made public and installed at 'Walk of the Stars' promenade in Bandra. She appreciated the honour given to her and thanked everyone for supporting her in her career.
  • Ravichandran Ashwin, the off-spinner will be honored with the Polly Umrigar Award as he was adjudged the best international cricketer of the year 2012-13. Ashwin clinched 43 wickets, in which four times he grabbed five wickets in a match and once it was 10-wicket as well.

  • Tata Sons' plans to make another big splash in the aviation space have been hit due to ownership hurdles. CNBC-TV18's Aastha Maheshwari says Tata Group which was planning to bid for 100 percent stake in Chennai airport has represented to the government on a cross ownership clause in the RFQ, which may not allow Tata Group arm, Tata Realty and Infrastructure, to participate in the bid at all.
  • Rs 100 crore project named Nano Park is a very ambitious project of the Karnataka government. This project will be based on nano science research. Chief minister Siddaramaiah at the Bangalore India Nano conclave has announced this park. For creating the Nano Park a 14-acre plot near Nelamangala, off Tumkur Road, has been selected.
  • Star India Pvt. Ltd. has got the team sponsorship rights of the Indian team for three years. Previously Sahara's bid was termed ineligible by the BCCI in Chennai. The period during which Star India will be having the rights is from 1st January 2014 to 31st March 2017.
  • Little Eye Labs, a startup and founded by group of program analysis geeks in Bangalore is all set for a new game with Facebook acquiring it. Main product of this lab is to develop tools which assist android developers in measuring, analyzing and optimizing their apps.
  • PepsiCo India, one of the biggest giants in beverages and snacks said that it will start its new beverage manufacturing facility in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh costing over Rs12 billion. After completing this plant at Sri City, Andhra Pradesh the plant will be the largest beverage plant by PepsiCo India.
  • The Bharatiya Mahila Bank (BMB) will be starting additional four branches in four capitals of the northeastern states of Agartala, Gangtok, Shillong and Itanagar in the current financial year 2013-14. 16 more branches will be started in which these 4 would be in northeastern states and the total number of branches till the year end will come to 25.
  • Arvind Kejriwal, the AAP chief will be taking the oath as the chief minister of Delhi at the Ramlila Maidan. The party sent the request to the Lt. Governor that they would be taking oath on December 28 for which they have got the approval. This was informed by Kumar Vishwas, the AAP party member

  • As many as 20,000 Indians out of 200,000 have submitted the application for the private mission which will be sending four men and women on a one-way trip to the Red Planet in 2023. Here a permanent space colony will be established.
  • A British man has won claim to sue Taj Mahal Palace Hotel owners in a British court of law. He was paralyzed in the 26/11 attacks in 2008. Indian Hotel Company Limited, the Tata Group company had contested that negligence claim of Will Pike should be heard in the courts here.

  • The iconic figure in anti-apartheid movement, Nelson Mandela passed away at the age of 95. He was South Africa's first black president termed by India as 'a true Gandhian'. A symbol of peace, Nobel Laureate Mandela was the president of South Africa from 1994 to 1999.
  • Farroq Sheikh, a veteran actor died of heart attack in Dubai. Born on 25 March 1948, he was just 65 years old. His body is still in Dubai and will be brought to India after completing all the necessary formalities. Farroq Sheikh played an immense role in parallel cinema in the 1970s and 1980s.

  • Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will be addressing a press conference on January 3 at 11 am at the National Media Centre.   • Google will be making available the Chromebook in schools in India. This is part of the global initiative for promoting laptops in the education sector. The scheme will be launched next month in four schools of Andhra Pradesh, where at first 25 Chromebooks would be given for free to each school.

  • In the latest list of ICC Test rankings, Indian cricket team is still at number two with 119 points and R Ashwin is at the top in all-rounders' chart. South Africa is at number one. The teams are prepared to play match against each other in a two-Test and three ODI series going to start on December 5 in South Africa.
  • South Africa grabbed the three ODI series from India 2-0 as of now. In the second ODI South Africa again routed India with a 134 runs win at Kingsmead. They compiled 280 for 6 wickets in which Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock scored tons in a delayed match of 49 overs per side.
  • Sports Minister Jitendra Singh appreciated the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to remove the suspension of the Indian Olympic Association at its Executive Board meeting.IOC president Thomas Bach specified that the Executive Board took note of the IOA decision to modify a clause in its constitution.The Executive Board may also remove ban on India that was imposed on December 4, 2012.
  • India clinches Kabaddi World Cup title for 4th consecutive time. The win has been more satisfying for India as it defeated its all time arch rival – Pakistan and that’s too with a margin of 9 points. The final score was 48-39. The final game was played between India and Pakistan at Guru Nanak Stadium in Ludhiana
  • In January inaugural edition of the Hockey World League will kick start. The matches will be played from 10th-18th in New Delhi at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium. The Hero Hockey World League Final of a tournament that started in August 2012 has eight world class teams vying for the coveted trophy.
  • BCCI has nominated Kapil Dev, the former India captain for the C.K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award. He was the first cricketer in India who had created the record of the ‘double’ of 5,000 runs and 400 wickets in Tests.
  • South Africa won the second test against India by 10 wickets. They had got a target  of only 58 runs which they comfortably reached in 11.4 overs. South Africa's Skipper Graeme Smith made 27 while Alviro Peterson made 31 runs. With this South Africa wins the series 1-0 as well. India made 223 all out.

  • MOM (Mars Orbiter Mission) or 'Mangalyaan', edged past the Moon's orbit and also become the farthest space object sent by India. The distance is determined by a coded ranging pulse delivered to the spacecraft which sends it back when it receives it on its downlink.
  • The successful testing of Prithvi-II surface-to-surface missile from Integrated Test Range at Chandipur-on-sea in Odisha was done. In fact in two months this is the third time the testing was done. The missile which is the country’s 1st indigenously built ballistic missile has a range of 350 km.
  • China is all set to join the lunar odyssey. Its first lunar rover is ready to land on moon. Its successful landing will be a huge boost to ambitious space program of this Asian superpower. Per CCTV (China Central Television) the spacecraft is scheduled to touch moon surface at 1340 GMT. The rover named Chang'e-3 mission blasted off 12 days back on a Long March-3B carrier rocket.
  • Tejas, the indigenous light combat aircraft after 30 years of conception received the operational clearance for its inclusion into the Indian Air Force. It is the lightest military jet in its class and can take a speed of more than 1,350 km per hour and is comparable to the Mirage 2000,Gripen fighter jets and F-16.
  • The Window phone users have some reason to be happy about. Microsoft will be providing extra 20GB of free SkyDrive storage for a year apart from the 7GB of free storage which is already there. This token of appreciation will be available to the users for an year and this offer can be availed by the users by the end of January.
