  • 54 crore bank customers or nearly half of India's population will have debit cards in the next three years, that implies impressive progress in making banking a service for all. Though the credit cards would remain only less than three crore during the same period as per a study done by Assocham.
  • State-run explorer Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) informed that it has drilled the world's deepest well by an offshore rig at a depth of over 10,300 feet off India's east coast. The company in its statement informed, 'ONGC's chartered-hired ultra-deep water drillship DDKG1 has set a world record for drilling well in deepest water depth by an offshore drilling rig.'
  • Microsoft in a confident mood that it has the Internet's best email service will spend at least $30 million to broadcast its message across the U.S. The campaign which starts on Tuesday will see email, Outlook.com, take on rival services such as Google Inc.'s Gmail.
  • India's information technology (IT) imports will be to the tune of $400 billion by the year 2020, more than the country's oil imports according to J.V. Ramamurthy, president and chief operating officer of HCL Infosystems. He also stated that since the projected manufacture is $100 billion there is a shortfall of nearly $300.

  • Vishwaroop', the Hindi version of the controversial film 'Vishwaroopam', released without any stir to a mild response. Though it is expected that the interest will pick up over the weekend.The movie, the original Tamil and Telugu version has been banned in Tamil Nadu, but it released without any trouble in Delhi, Punjab and Rajasthan, while in Uttar Pradesh and Mumbai, security was tightened for the release over fear of protests.
  • In the popular and technical category? 'Vicky Donor' and 'Barfi!' got seven awards each at the 8th edition of Renault Star Guild Awards 2013. 'Barfi!' also got the title of best film. Actor Ayushmann Khuranna won the award for most promising debut for 'Vicky Donor'.
  • The sixth edition of the World Sufi Spirit Festival (WSSF), which has the local, national and international artists participating in it started in a grand way at the Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur. This festival which is hosted by the royal family of Jodhpur will end on Feb 27 at Ahichhatragarh Fort in Nagaur. It is an eclectic mix of music traditions from various parts of the world. The artists from Egypt, Turkey, France, Pakistan, Mongolia and Afghanistan will enthrall the audience here
  • Sanjay Leela Bhansali's debut TV show 'Saraswatichandra' is now on air and the director-producer is hopeful that 2,000 episodes will be completed in it. This show has been adapted from the novel written by Govardhanram Madhavaram Tripathi. The first episode went live on Monday on Star Plus. Gautam Rode and Jennifer Winget are the lead actors in it.

  • India is all set for its 101th space mission. The Indian rocket’s fuelling would be completed. This would send seven satellites into space on Feb 25 evening and the countdown for the launch is progressing smoothly. The fuelling started on Sunday night. President Pranab Mukherjee will witness the launch of the first of the 10 space missions planned by the ISRO in 2013.
  • India is now one of the best Legal Process Outsourcing (LPO) destinations in the world as per the government's annual economic report. The Economic Survey 2012-13 that Finance Minister P Chidambaram presented in parliament specified that legal services showed growth at 8.2 percent annually from 2005-06 to 2011-12.

This warning was sent to the users by Twitter.It can be termed as one of the biggest security breach to ever affect Twitter, that has 200 million active users. Twitter stated it had intimated all the users who had their passwords stolen, and have asked them to reset it to stop further risk.

  • The massive 2012 DA14 asteroid reached closest to the Earth at 23.25 on Friday at the distance of 27,700 km. It was closer than communication and weather satellites. It was a matter of 16 hours that the flyby took place after a meteorite shower injured 1,200 people in the Urals city of Chelyabinsk. Not visible through naked eye it had a brightness with an apparent magnitude of about 7.0. The asteroid was 50 metres in size and weighed about 130,000 metric tonnes. 
  • India's Mars mission will be launched this year, this was informed by President Pranab Mukherjee. He stated that many space missions are planned this year that includes India's first mission to Mars and the launch of the first navigational satellite. The Mars Orbiter Mission, slated for October, will search for signs  of life and ascertain why there is loss of atmosphere on the red planet.
  • The launch of Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle-C20 (PSLV-C20) carrying seven satellites scheduled at 5.56 p.m. from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, around 80 km from Chennai was delayed by five minutes. The revised launch time was at 6.01pm.
  • The science and technology sector got an increase of 12 percent in the union budget while a dedicated fund of Rs.200 crore has been assigned to ensure that the comman people can utilize the benefits of scientific innovations, This was informed by the Finance Minister P. Chidambaram when he presented the Union budget today.

  • President Pranab Mukherjee approved an ordinance that assigns stricter punishment for sexual crimes against women including death sentence in rare cases. The Criminal Law (Amendment) Ordinance, 2013 which is based broadly on J.S. Verma's report was passed by the cabinet on Friday. But the ordinance has received a lot of flak from women rights activists as it is said to have done mockery of the Verma recommendations.

  • Sachin Tendulkar added another record today when he equaled Sunil Gavaskar's record of most first-class hundreds by hitting an unbeaten century against Rest of India on day three of the Irani Cup. This was his 30th domestic hundred added up to the 51 Test tons. He made 140, his 18th century for his home state. Gavaskar had scored 81 first-class hundreds between 1971 and 1997, including 34 in 125 Tests for India.
  • Parliament terror attack accused Afzal Guru has been hanged today in Tihar Jail in New Delhi. Home Secretary R.K. Singh confirmed the execution of the man who had been sentenced to death for his main role in the Dec 13, 2001 parliament attack that spiraled almost into a war between India and Pakistan.
  • The rebel tennis players have  formed the Indian Tennis Players Association (ITPA) with former Davis Cup captain Jaidip Mukerjea as its interim president as a move to voice out their opinions to the tennis administration. The other founding members include, Mahesh Bhupathi, Enrico Piperno, Manisha Malhotra, Prahalad Srinath, Somdev Devvarman, Rohan Bopanna, Aditya Sachdeva Mustafa Ghouse and All India Tennis Association (AITA) vice-president Karti P. Chidambaram.
  • The wrestling community in India received a shock with the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) decision to remove the sport from the 2020 edition of the Games. Olympic medal winners Sushil Kumar and Yogeshwar Dutt stated that it was a 'Black Day' for the sport.
  • World billiards champion Pankaj Advani became the first and only Indian to get into the top eight on the professional snooker circuit as he comfortably defeated Scotland's Graeme Dott 4-1 to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Welsh Open tournament at Newport on Thursday.

  • Haryana's first atomic power plant will be constructed in an area of 1,503 acres in Fatehabad district. Today the process was initiated with setting up of a barbed wire fencing around the project site at Gorakhpur. When this is completed then a concrete wall will be set up around this which will cost Rs.18 crore.
  • Google has launched its own high-end laptop Chromebook Pixel which is powered by its Chrome operating system. This is specifically for power users who have fully adopted the cloud. Chromebook Pixel, with a 4.3-million-pixel touchscreen, will have the highest pixel density of any laptop screen at present. The laptop has an Intel Core i5 processor. The local solid-state storage is just 32 GB, consumers can get one terabyte of free cloud storage space with Google's Drive service for three years. The basic Wi-Fi version of the laptop comes at $1,299 in the US.
