Charminar Information:

The Charminar was built in 1591, this building built in Hyderabad city of Telangana state of India is a memorial and a mosque. At present, this monument is the global heritage of Hyderabad and Charminar is also included in the main monuments of India. Charminar is near the Musa river. In the Archaeological and Architectural Treasure it is also included in the “list of monuments”. The English name of Charminar is made up of the variation of the word four and the minar, the English name of it is “four tower”.

Charminar History:

The fifth ruler of the Qutub Shahi dynasty, Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, built the Charminar in 1591, after shifting his capital from Golkonda to Hyderabad. Charminar has become a local and national landmark as well as a global icon of Hyderabad. The structure is made of granite, limestone, mortar and pulverized marble. Initially, with its four arches, the monument was planned so much that when the fort was opened, as a glimpse of the city of a bustling Hyderabad, these Charminar arches were facing the most active royal paternal roads.

Important Facts about Charminar:

  1. Charminar has been Built by Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah in 1591.
  2. It is believed that Charminar was built to honor a promise Quli Qutb Shah made to Allah. It was in fact, built to mark the end of the plague in the city.
  3. The four minarets of Charminar are said to honor the first four Khalifas of Islam
  4. The Mosque actually occupies in the top of the floor.
  5. 45 People can pray on the roof of the Charminar together.
  6. The four stories of each minaret is marked by carved ring which is visible from outside.
  7. Each side of the Minar has a giant arch, which is 11 m wide and 20 m high, measuring from the summit to the plinth.
  8. Each arch also has a clock, which was installed in 1889.
  9. It is also said that there is an underground tunnel that links the charminar to Golconda Fort, which was the former capital of Quli Qutb Shah, and provides an escape route to the royal family in case of an emergency. However the location of the secret tunnel is unknown.
  10. You will find a cat’s head inside the Charminar which is designed in the top of one of the little bends on the eastern side.
