  • 42,476 scholarships were awarded to students belonging to the  minority communities during 2011-12. These scholarships were under the merit-cum-means scholarship scheme of the ministry of minority affairs.  Amount to the tune of Rs.115.72 crores was spent for this purpose.

  • BOC India (BOCI)?, the Industrial gas manufacturer which is a member of Germany-based The Linde Group has stated a 24.65 percent slide in its net profit for the second quarter? to Rs.203.19 million from Rs.269.68 million? in last year. 
  • Bata India, the leading footwear retailer and manufacturer has announced a 28.45 percent rise in its standalone net profit for the quarter ended June 30, 2012. In the second quarter profits recorded were Rs.52.65 crore compared to Rs.40.99 crore for the same period last year. 
  • Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) will be investing around $1 billion over the next few years and recruit around 1,500 people in its new aerospace division. Earlier this month the company had applied for an industrial license to 'design, develop, manufacture, equipment and components, including airframe, engine, radars, avionics and accessories for military and civilian aircraft, helicopters, unmanned airborne vehicles and aerostats'.

  • HDFC, India's largest mortgage lender, has announced that their net profit rose by 18.6% in the second quarter at Rs.10019.10 million compared to last year’s Rs.8,445.30 million . As loans to individual home loan borrowers have shown impressive growth, this can be one of the key factors for the development.  
  • Fuel prices of petrol, diesel, cooking gas and kerosene across the country were revised after state-run oil marketing companies adjusted the surcharge paid for state levies which included entry tax on crude and purchase tax. In seven states petrol price increased from 72 paise to Rs.2.13 per litre. Similarly diesel prices from 72 paise to Rs.1.95 per litre in seven states.

  • Akshay Kumar’s fans will have something to look forward to when they go to watch the movie Cocktail. Viewers will catch the glimpse of Joker directed by Shirish Kunder  which is believed to be Akshay Kumar's 100th film, along with Homi Adjania's Cocktail. The director tweeted that Joker Trailer will release on July 12.

  • As many as 50000 villagers have left their homes and 21 people killed after violence hit the Kokrajhar District in Assam. Violence has erupted after a clash between Bodos and the Muslims in the region. This happened when some unidentified persons killed four people belonging to Bodo tribe.
  • 29 pilgrims lost their lives when the canter truck they were traveling in got into head on collision with another truck at Haryana's Bhiwani district. As many as 57 people were returning from Amarpura Dham shrine in Rajasthan when the accident happened. 22 people died on spot while 7 succumbed to injuries in the hospital. Among these 10 were women and 3 children.

  • During the year 2011-2012? Bihar achieved its highest growth rate of 16.71 percent which was due to a record foodgrain production as per Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi. This is the highest for the state in five years. 166.69 lakh tonnes of food grain were produced during 2011-2012?. It was 103.47 lakh tonnes of production last year.

  • Veteran Congress leader N.D. Tiwari lost the paternity suit and was declared the biological father of Rohit Shekhar as per the Delhi High Court after the DNA test report was opened. Rohit Shekhar in 2008? had filed a suit which claimed that he was Tiwari's son. 
  • Egypt's President Mohamed Mursi told Israel he wanted to work for peace in the Middle East, in the first official message sent by the Arab state's new Islamist leadership to the Jewish state.

  • Pranab Mukherjee was voted India's 13th president. He won by a huge margin that is 713,763 votes?? compared to P.A. Sangma 315,887 votes and he received in all 70 percent votes. Pranab Mukherjee who is one of the country's most experienced politician with four decades of political career has held the portfolios of finance, defence and external affairs.

  • India's Leander Paes and his Russian partner Elena Vesnina have entered the mixed doubles semifinals of the Wimbledon tennis championships by beating unseeded Paul Hanley and Alla Kudryavtseva.The fourth seed duo defeated Australian-Russian pair with 6-2, 6-2 in the quarter finals. 
  • Chennai will host the 14th IBCA Chess Olympiad for the Blind scheduled from Aug 9-19. In fact in Asia this event will be hosted for the first time. India had successfully hosted the 11th Individual World Chess Championship for the Blind 2006 in Goa which prompted the International Braille Chess Association (IBCA) Congress to award this event to India. 
  • At the London Games' opening ceremony Sushil Kumar will be the flag bearer for India. Vijay Kumar Malhotr, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) acting president, stated that names of Paes,Bindra and Vijender were also considered for this.
  • Virat Kohli's swashbuckling 106 off 113 balls helped India post a 21 runs win over Sri Lanka in the first ODI of the five-match series. Kohli had hit nine fours in his innings which also saw a partnership of 173 runs off 175 balls for the second wicket with Sehwag. Sehwag was unlucky not to get his 100 though he was in an aggressive mood at the pitch. He got out at 96. India scored 314 for six to which only Kumar Sangakarra gave a fitting reply and scored 133 runs. The Sri Lankan team could not chase the target and was bundled up at 293 for nine.

They are the industry's first enterprise 1L PCs and will offer superior performance and will be reliable as well. 
  • India's largest solar thermal system has been installed by the Punjab government in the premises of Kangaro Industries Ltd at village Kanech, in Ludhiana district.? It has a capacity for evaporation and condensation of one lakh litres of waste water per day.
