Vyas Samman:

The Vyas Samman is a literary award in India, first awarded in 1991. It is awarded annually by the K.K. Birla Foundation to outstanding literary work in Hindi authored and publish in past 10 years by an Indian citizen. The Vyas Samman Prize Money includes a cash payout of Rs 350,000 (as of 2017) a citation and a plaque. Famous Poet Ram Vilas Sharma was the first recipient in 1991. Vyas Samman is second highest literary award after Jnanpith Award in India.

Vyas Samman 2017:

Eminent Hindi writer Mamta Kalia was honoured with Vyas Samman 2017 for her novel “Dukkham Sukkham”. Dukkham Sukkham published in 2009 is saga of a lower middle-class familys three generations.

Mamta Kalia was born in 1940 in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh. She had received MA in English from Delhi University before taking up lecturership at SNDT Women’s University in Mumbai.She is known for her works in Hindi and English including “Beghar”, “Janch Abhi Jaari Hai”, “Nirmohi”, and “Bolne Wali Aurat”.
