  • According to global fund-tracking agency EPFR, emerging markets attracted USD 3.5 billion or over 70 per cent of total fresh capital invested in the equity funds across the world during the week ended 2 November 2011.
  • The MoU between Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) and Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) signed  the MoU for setting up Nuclear Power Plants in India for generation of electricity and any other area as mutually agreed.
  • The Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visited Indonesia from 17 November 2011 to 19 November 2011 and Singapore on 19-20 November 2011. The Prime Minister attended the 9th ASEAN-India and East Asia Summits at Bali in Indonesia.
  • European Union negotiators agreed to a two percent rise in the bloc's budget for 2012 to 129 billion euros (174 billion US dollars).

  • Legendary singer-composer  and Padma Bhushan awardee Bhupen Hazarika died in Mumbai. He is also known for his poetic compositions that covered a variety of subjects ranging from politics to society and from love to eroticism.
  • Joe Frazier, the former heavyweight boxing champion  died after a battle with liver cancer. Frazier is most famous for defeating bitter rival and another boxing legend Muhammad Ali in the 1971 Fight of the Century.
  • Pioneering Indian American biochemist Har Gobind Khorana, who won the 1968 Nobel Prize for medicine, died in Massachusetts. Khorana is known to have revolutionised biochemistry with his pioneering work in DNA chemistry.

  • The Union government of India approved the Delhi Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Bill 2011, thus paved the way for dividing MCD into 3 corporations and to increase the reservation of seats for women to 50 percent from the current 33 percent. MCD is Asia’s largest civic body.
  • The United Naga Council (UNC) decided to lift the economic blockade from Manipur following assurance from Union home affairs minister P Chidambaram.

  • Indian Oil won the 116th All India Beighton Cup with a 2-0 win over ONGC. Indian oil took the lead when Afan Yousuf scored the goal in the 58th minute.  Goalkeeper Baljeet Singh stood out with a man of the match performance. 
  • Karnataka’s Saurabh Sangvekar created a national record in swimming on the first day of the 65th Senior National Aquatic meet in Ranchi. Saurabh swam to a new national record in the 800m freestyle in a time of 8:12.57 seconds.
  • Swiss tennis star Roger Federer defeated Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France in their singles final tennis match at the Barclay’s ATP World Tour Finals, in the O2 arena in London.

  • A 400-metre-wide giant asteroid, called 2005 YU55, came within 201700 miles of earth. An asteroid of this size didn’t come so near to Earth since 1976 and will not again until 2028.
  • NASA launched Rover, nicknamed Curiosity to explore the planet Mars. The rover was launched from Florida an Atlas 5 rocket. The Rover will take eight and a half months to reach the Red Planet (Mars).

  • The 17th SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) Summit (the heads of states) held in Hithadhoo, Addu, Maldives on 10 November and 11 November 2011.
  • APEC summit 2011 was held in Honolulu, Hawaii from 8 November to 13 November 2011. Under the chairmanship of US President Barak Obama, leaders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum agreed a comprehensive set of measures to increase economic growth and job creation by expanding trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific region.
  • The 2011 United Nations Climate Change Conference was held in the South African city Durban, from 28 November to 11 December 2011.
