  • Indian animation films which were submitted for shortlist of academy awards were 'Delhi Safari' and 'Hey Krishna' ('Krishna Aur Kans').   • Fresh violence erupted in Karachi when at least 14 people were killed, seven of them within an hour, with armed men on motorcycles carrying out target killings in Pakistan's biggest city.

  • Inder Kumar Gujral, former prime minister for 11 months in 1997-98, died in a Gurgaon hospital at the age of 93. He served as the external affairs minister in two non-Congress governments during the tenure of prime ministers V.P. Singh and H.D. Deve Gowda.
