  • Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has appointed ex-Google executive Jai Mani as lead product manager to manage its products in India. The company has made its position in the India smartphone market with two low budget smartphones MI3 and RedMi 1s. Xiaomi's global vice president, Hugo Barra who is also an ex-executive of Google announced the appointment.
  • Manohar Lal Khattar, MLA from Karnal assembly constituency, has been selected as their unanimous leader by all the elected Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs of Haryana, in the presence of Central observers. The 60-year-old RSS veteran is considered to be close to both Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. 
  • Haryana will have its new non-Jat chief minister today. Bharatiya Janata Party's Karnal MLA Manohar Lal Khattar will take oath as Haryana's chief minister in the swearing-in ceremony that will take place in Panchkula at HUDA ground in Sector 5. The state for the past three consecutive terms has been ruled by a jat leader. It is after 15 years that Haryana will have a non-Jat chief minister.

  • Indian children's rights activist Kailash Satyarthi has been awarded the Nobel Peace Price 2014. He dedicated his award to the nation and children in slavery. As per media reports, he said that this award is an honour not only to him but to the entire nation and children whose voices were always unheard.
  • The winning amount of $50,000 in Dutch Open Grand Prix is won by 27-year old badminton player Ajay Jayaram. He defeated Ihsan Maulana Mustofa of Indonesia at Topsportcentrum Almere. The final scores was 10-11, 11-6, 11-7, 1-11, 11-9.

  • The chief executive of the world's largest e-commerce site Amazon, Jeffrey P Bezos called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Amazon has already confirmed the investment of USD 2 billion in India. Amazon which is in the process of evaluating the location wanted to set up a data centre in India to unwind the multi-billion cloud possibilities.
  • Flipkart announced that they grossed more than Rs 600 crore or $100 million sales in just ten hours time during the October 6 Big Billion Day offer. However, many users slammed this effort as nothing but marketing gimmick that resulted in record clicks of one billion.
  • Isha and Akash, twins of billionaire Mukesh Ambani has made their way to Reliance Industries Limited (RIL). Isha is now the part of the board of Reliance Jio Infocomm, her twin brother Akash has joined the Reliance Retail board. Isha has done her graduation from the Yale University with majors in psychology and South Asian studies in 2013.
  • During September 2014, Wholesale Price Index fell to 2.38 percent. In August 2014, WPI was 3.74 percent. The main reasons behind this fall are decrease in prices of crude prices globally, low demand for industrial products, and slow down in increase of food articles. Since October 2009, it is the lowest WPI.
  • Indian Prime Minister launched labour reform to achieve his dream of making India a successful manufacturing hub. The reform is expected to ease the process of doing business in India.
  • Indians have become tech savvy for sure and the number is growing at an accelerated rate. In a recent global survey on gadget use in different countries, India emerged as the country having highest number of owners having smartphones. 95 per cent of the tech-savvy Indians regarded smartphones as ‘critically important’ in their lives. Moreover, India ranks 2nd in the list of Google Glass owners.
  • Foreign investors seem to be responding positively to Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ campaign and Gujarat is becoming one of the biggest beneficiaries of this call. Some of the big investments that flew in to Gujarat, the home state of Indian PM, include greenfield factory of Abbott in Gujarat’s Jhagadia (amounting to Rs 450 crore investment and employment scope for 400 workers), inauguration of Rs 1,000 crore chemical manufacturing plant of BASF (German company) in Dahej, etc.
  • Japan’s SoftBank Corp has become the biggest investor of Snapdeal, the New Delhi based eCommerce portal. To gain from the rapidly expanding online ecommerce market space of India, SoftBank Corp has bought stake to the extent of $627 million.
  • World Bank’s 2014 'Ease of Doing Business' Report was published recently. It shows India ranks at a dismal 142 position, accumulating 52.78 points, in a list of 189 countries. It slipped 2 positions from last year’s 140th rank, accumulating 53.97 points. However, the report did not consider the recent slew of reform measures undertaken by Narendra Modi government.

  • Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar adopted a village Putramrajuvari Kandriga in Nellore district under the Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana. Sachin Tendulkar met Prime Minister Narendra Modi a day before and expressed his desire to adopt a village. As per official report the village has 150 families and it is expected that Sachin will visit the village around November 16.

  • India today test fired indigenously developed ‘Nirbhay, the sub-sonic nuclear capable cruise missile at a place near Chandipur. Firing was done through a mobile launcher.

  • Sports Minister K. Acham Naidu has declared his plans of developing Visakhapatnam as Andhra Pradesh’s sports hub. Andhra Pradesh lost its sports complex in Hyderabad to Telangana after bifurcation. While a tribal sports academy is planned to be set up in Araku, sports school at the cost of Rs. 50 crore will be set up at Vetajangalapalem.
  • Sania Mirza along with Cara Black of Zimbabwe won WTA Finals in Singapore. The Indian-Zimbabwe duo beat doubles partners China’s Peng Shuai and Taiwan's Hsieh Su-wei in straight set – 6-1, 6-0. They wrapped up the final within one hour. Mirza dedicated the title to India and thanked her fans for the support. The only Indian who won this title before Sania was Vijay Amritraj in the year 1977.?
  • Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) is going to host an exciting the National Open Athletics Championships in New Delhi. The sport event will be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium from Nov 2-5. To take part in the 54th edition of this championship near about 1,000 entries have been sent.
