  • Mr. Clean Shashank Manohar has been formally sworn in as the new BCCI President after sudden death of Jagmohan Dalmiya last month. The 58-year-old lawyer from Nagpur said, just after his appointment as BCCI chief, his first priority will be to clean board 's image for restoring faith of the cricket lovers. 
  • West Bengal transport secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay has been named interim state election commissioner after S R Upadhyay put in his papers allegedly succumbing under pressure from political parties following allegations of rampant violence and irregularities in the local body polls. Bandyopadhyay, a senior Indian Administrative Service officer, is slated to take over on 7 October 2015.
  • P.S. Jayakumar took charge as managing director and chief executive officer of the state-run Bank of Baroda (BoB) following a weekend of raids on its Delhi branch by the CBI over a forex fraud case. The chief executive's post at BoB had been vacant for the last 14 months. Jayakumar was named to it by the government on August 14.

  • About 16 lakh trucks went off the roads in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh as part of the nationwide indefinite strike by the truckers to protest against the present toll system. Responding to the call given by All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC), truck operators' associations in both the Telugu states joined the strike, affecting the movement of goods.
  • India is hoping to expand strategic partnership with Europe’s economic powerhouse Germany by entering into a joint defence production to boost Make in India initiative. The announcement will be done during German Chancellor Angela Merkel's visit to India from October 4 to 6. 
  • Software major HCL Technologies reported net profit of Rs.1,726 crore for first quarter (July-September) of its fiscal 2015-16, posting 7.9 percent decline year-on-year (YoY) and 3.2 percent sequentially.

  • Indian Super League (ISL) club NorthEast United FC confirmed that they have signed Cameroon defender Andre Bikey as a replacement for the injured Miguel Garcia. 'Miguel Garcia had suffered an Achilles tendon rupture earlier this season, requiring a recovery time of 10 to 12 weeks,' NorthEast United said in a release. 
  • Domestic electronics company Videocon in collaboration with technology giant Microsoft launched the world's first Windows 10-powered TV at a price of Rs.39,990.

  • Improved investor sentiment and resilience to external shocks are expected to increase India's GDP growth rate to 7.5 percent during 2015-16 and further to 7.8 percent in the next fiscal year, predicts the World Bank. The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth, as per the bank, is lifted by cheap oil prices and the country's limited exposure to the global financial turmoil.

  • A popular tourist destination in Kerala, Thekkady has been named the 'world's top emerging destination' in the inaugural Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) CEO Challenge 2015.   • Sitanshu Kar, Spokesperson to Defence Ministry, said that the ministry has approved induction of women as pilots of fighter planes. The first batch of women pilots will fly the fighter planes from June 2017 and will be selected from the current batch of trainees at Air Force Academy. 
  • Mumbai underworld don Chhota Rajan, a former key aide of fugitive Dawood Ibrahim, has been arrested in the Indonesian province of Bali, CBI director Ranjit Sinha confirmed. Rajndera Sadashiv Nikalje alias 'Chhota Rajan', 55, the boss of a major crime syndicate based in India, was arrested on Sunday with the help of Interpol.

  • Union Finance Ministry said in a statement that the tax department has already collected 50.6 per cent tax of the total Budget estimate for the financial year 2015-16. In the first 6 months of the financial year (April-September 2015), the total collection of indirect tax (including service tax, custom tax, and central excise) has reached Rs. 3.24 lakh crore, which is a jump of 35.8 per cent over the indirect tax collection in the same period last year.

  • World No. 13 P V Sindhu is continuing her rampaging performance USD 650,000 Super Series Premier Denmark Open event as she humiliated former World No.1 Chinese Wang Yihan in the quarter final match and advanced to the semis. The two-time bronze medallist at World Championship, Sindhu, took 45 minutes to defeat the 6th seeded Yihan in straight sets 21-18, 21-19 at the game played at Odense Sports Park. 
  • Ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal lost her World No.1 spot to reigning World Champion Carolina Marin as the Badminton World Federation (BWF) updated its rankings on Thursday. Saina's performance in the last two tournaments -- Japan Open and Denmark Open -- where she lost to Japan's Minatsu Mitani in the second round of both the events, led her to drop to No.2 in women's singles. 
  • India’s campaign at French Open Super Series badminton tournament ended after World No. 2 Saina Nehwal crashed out of the tournament in the quarter final match. Top seeded Saina went down to seventh ranked Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand in staright sets 9-21, 15-21. 
  • The 2016 National Hockey Championship will be played from April 11 to May 1 in Saifai, Uttar Pradesh.? The championship has been divided into two sections -- A and B. The A section, matches will be held from April 19 to May 1, and the B section ties will be played between April 11-21.?
