1605Akbar (Abul-Fath Djalal-ud-Din), Mughal emperor of India (1556-1605), passed away of diarrhoea or dysentery at the age of 63 years. At Akbar's graveside, stood conspicious in his simplicity, Jesuit priest Father Xavier who always remained his devoted friend. (16 or 17).
1755The French surrendered Fort Beauséjour to the British, leading to the expulsion of the Acadians during the French and Indian war. Fort Beauséjour was one of several French forts erected after King George's War (1748) to strengthen the French position in North America against the British.

2000Israel complies with ‘United Nations Security Council Resolution 425’ 22 years after its issuance, which calls on Israel to completely withdraw from Lebanon. Israel does so, except the disputed Shebaa farms. 2010Bhutan becomes the first country to institute a total ban on tobacco. 2012China successfully launched its Shenzhou 9 spacecraft, carrying three astronauts, including the first female Chinese astronaut Liu Yang, to the Tiangong-1 orbital module. 2012The United States Air Force's robotic Boeing X-37B spaceplane returns to Earth after a classified 469-day orbital mission. The Boeing X-37, also known as the Orbital Test Vehicle (OTV), is a reusable unmanned spacecraft. It is boosted into space by a launch vehicle, then re-enters Earth's atmosphere and lands as a spaceplane. The X-37 is operated by the United States Air Force for orbital spaceflight missions intended to demonstrate reusable space technologies.
