1980Iran continued bombing on oil installations in Baghdad as a retaliation for Iraq aircraft bombing on it's own oil refineries in the Persian Gulf.
1993An earthquake 6.3 on the Richter scale strikes the city of Latur in southern India. By normal accounts 6.3 is not a severely massive earthquake but as a result of poor construction of houses and many presence of many makeshift village huts, and because of the time it struck over 10,000 died when homes collapsed on sleeping persons in early morning hours.
2005A United Nations health expert, who is coordinating the response to the recent south-east Asian bird flu outbreak also known as avian influenza, has warned that the disease could kill 'up to 150 million' people. Bird flu has killed large numbers of birds and more than 60 humans in Asia since 2003.
2006Indian police accuse Pakistan's security and intelligence service, the ISI, of masterminding the Mumbai train bombings in July. This terror attack was carried out by militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba, which killed nearly 200 people.
2007The Jewish community in India is angered after a company produces bedspreads entitled the “Nazi collection.” The brand included the swastika symbol next to the name. The company’s owner, Kapil Kumar Todi, argued that the word Nazi was used as an acronym for “New Arrival Zone of India” and the swastika symbol was also a symbol used in Hinduism.
2008Chinese milk scandal: The Dutch food giant Unilever began recalling Lipton-brand milk tea powder in the cities of Hong Kong and Macau after they were found to contain a small percentage of mel.
2011Serbian authorities banned a gay pride parade from proceeding, citing fears that it would incite violence. Authorities also decided to ban many counter-demonstrators from appearing on the scheduled parade day. Officials insisted that the move was meant to protect public safety.
