  • The Narendra Modi government overlooked the apprehensions of judiciary as well as opposition parties and appointed P Sathasivam, the former Chief Justice of India, as the new Governor of Kerala. He is the first ever retired CJI to be appointed as Governor.
  • Justice HL Dattu has been appointed as the 42nd Chief Justice of India. President Pranab Mukherjee administered the oath of office on Sunday in Darbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhavan. The earlier Chief Justice of India RM Lodha demitted office on 27th September. Justice HL Dattu's term will end on December 2, 2015.

  • The Narula brothers Achin, 24, and Sarthak, 23 from Delhi are the first from the city to win the maximum prize money of Rs 7 crore in the Jodi Special episode of TV reality game show Kaun Banega Crorepati. The show is hosted by none other than Amitabh Bachchan. The duo were expecting to win Rs 25 lakh but the outcome was totally shocking for them. They gave all the answers very calmly.

  • Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched ‘Make in India Campaign’ before visiting the US. During his speech he said that FDI to Indians mean First Develop India for foreigners. The audience at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi consisted of 500 CEOs who have pledged to transformIndiainto a manufacturing hub.   • Standoff between China and India has been resolved at the Ladakh Border, Sushma Swaraj, External Affairs Minister, informed the press. Withdrawal of China’s PLA troop started from September 26 (Friday) and the process will be completed by September 30. She described this issue as a ‘big accomplishment’.

  • India’s Mars Orbiter Mission (MoM) has entered Mars Gravitational Sphere of Influence (MGSI), which means the aircraft is within 5.4 lakh km radius. On November 5, 2013, the spaceport was launched from Sriharikota and is scheduled to enter the Martian Orbit on September 24, 2014. ISRO today successfully woke up the main rocket engine inside the spacecraft for 4 seconds that has been lying dormant for the last nine months.

Precisely, India ranks second on the list, coming only after the US. From January to June 2014, the Indian government made 2,794 requests for 5,002 user accounts. The US leads the race with 12,539 information requests on 21,576 users. The total number of data requests during the period was 32,000, which is 15 per cent more than corresponding period of 2013.

  • 25-year-old Croatian Marin Cilic wins US Open Tennis title for the first time. He is the second Croatian after Goran Ivanisevic to win a major Grand Slam title. Goran Ivanisevic, who is also the coach of Martin, won Wimbledon title back in 2001. Marin Cilic defeated Kei Nishikori in straight sets 6-3, 6-3, 6-3. During this 28th Grand Slam event,  Cilic fired 38 winners, 17 aces, and 9 break points.
  • Yo Yo Tigers wins a kabaddi match in World Kabaddi League (WKL) at the Rajindra College Hockey Stadium Bathinda, Punjab by defeating Punjab Thunder by 61-58. Stamping their fourth win, Yo Yo Tigers earned eight points from six matches.
  • Boxer and 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Manoj Kumar will finally be given Arjuna Award by the Sports Ministry after the award committee led by Kapil Dev earlier refused to oblige
  • Jitu Rai  gave India its first gold medal of the 17th Asian Games at the Ongnyeon International Shooting Range in Incheon, South Korea, after winning the men's 50 metre pistol event?. On the same day Shweta Chaudhry also won the bronze medal in the 10m air pistol event.
  • Sandeep Sejwal won the bronze medal in the 50 m breaststroke at the Asian Games on Friday. He took 28.26secs to complete the swimming competition. It was way back in 1986 when Khajan Singh won a silver medal in the 200m butterfly at Seoul and Virdhawal Khade won a bronze medal four years ago.
  • India reached 9th rank after winning 4 Gold medals.  Besides Gold, till now India has won 5 Silver and 26 Bronze medals, taking the total tally to 35 medals. Wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt won the 4th Gold medal for India. In 20km Race Walking, Khushbir Kaur became first Indian woman to win a medal, creating a new national record (Time - 1:33:07). She won silver. M R Poovamma won Bronze in 400m race for women. India won 3 Bronze medals in women's doubles, men's doubles, and men's singles (Yuki Bhambri) Tennis events.
  • Mary Kom, Indian Woman Boxer in 48-51kg Fly division, won Gold Medal. Indian Women’s Hockey team won bronze by beating Japan 2-1. In 800m women’s final, Tintu Lukka won bronze and finished race at a time of 1:59.19s. In protest of her controversial defeat in the semi-finals, boxer Sarita Devi refused wearing the Bronze medal.
